Leveraging AI for Business Continuity

A professional-level learning stream that equips participants to build AI-powered business continuity tools grounded in real-world disaster response experience.

Submitted by: Jasmine Ramratan Level: Professional Date: April 2026

Background and rationale

In recent years, large-scale wildfire events across Western Canada have displaced entire communities and the organizations that operate within them. In each case, the same problem surfaced: existing HR, communication, and operational reporting systems had no capacity to answer the most basic questions about workforce status during a displacement event. Managers were separated from their teams, corporate communication channels failed, and reconstituting operations took weeks longer than it needed to.

These are not hypothetical scenarios. They are documented, repeated events. The tools needed to address them — secure intake forms, intelligence dashboards, lightweight progressive web apps — are now buildable by individuals with foundational AI skills and domain knowledge of their organization's operations. This course bridges the gap between AI skill development and practical business continuity application.

Core premise: A person with the right AI skills and domain knowledge about their organization can build a deployable business continuity toolkit — no enterprise procurement or twelve-month implementation cycle required.

Position within the AILIC credential pathway

This course is proposed as a Level 2: AI for Professionals specialization within the AI Learning Institute of Canada's credential pathway. Participants entering this course will have completed the three Level 1 foundation courses:

Level 1 prerequisiteWhat it establishes
Discover AIFamiliarity with major AI tools and what each is built for
Business BasicsAbility to build functional tools: intake forms, data dashboards, custom reports
Security BasicsSecure workflows, encryption, and data protection — required before any Level 2 course

This prerequisite chain is essential for this course in particular. Business continuity tools handle sensitive personal information during crisis situations — participants must have Security Basics before building them. The Business Basics tools (forms, dashboards, reports) map directly onto the core deliverables of this course.

Instructor qualification: Jasmine Ramratan holds AILIC Coach certification, qualifying her to facilitate and instruct Level 2 professional courses. Final certification of participants would be completed through live, one-on-one evaluation with an AILIC Certifier, consistent with the Institute's verification model.

Course structure

The course follows a four-module progression, moving from assessment through to deployment. Each module combines coaching-led instruction, guided AI-assisted building exercises, and reflection on real-world case studies from Canadian disaster response.

Module 1

Needs Analysis and Gap Assessment

Participants use AI tools to audit their organization's current business continuity posture: what systems exist, what they actually cover, and where the critical gaps are when workforce displacement occurs.

Module 2

Building Protocols and Documents with AI

Using AI to draft, structure, and refine business continuity protocols — moving from hundred-page binders to concise, actionable four-page plans that someone can open in a crisis and immediately use.

Module 3

Deploying Business Continuity Tools

Hands-on building of the three core tools: a secure employee status intake form, an intelligence dashboard for management decision-making, and a lightweight PWA for trusted communication with displaced staff.

Module 4

Change Management and Pre-loading

The technology is the easy part. This module addresses the organizational challenge: getting leadership buy-in, pre-loading communication channels, and ensuring the tools are ready before the emergency arrives.

Why this course matters now

The frequency and severity of climate-driven displacement events is increasing. Organizations that experienced COVID shutdowns learned that you cannot stop an operation and expect it to restart instantly. Those that experienced wildfire evacuations learned that if you don't have connection points pre-loaded at the management level, you won't be able to find your own people.

AI skills have matured to the point where the tools needed to address these gaps are buildable by professionals within their own organizations — without enterprise procurement cycles or external contractors. What is missing is the course that connects AI capability to this specific, high-stakes domain. This is that course.

The goal is not to replace organizational thinking, but to make it actionable at the speed that an emergency demands.
